Modern garden area, minimalist, with 3-piece waterfall, bench, 3 wall blocks with floor vases and steps going down
After various designs, we decided on a quite straightforward concept. We had to build steps going down. In addition, a waterfall, a seating possibility and planting boxes were to be installed. As the land border is not parallel to the house, the individual garden parts are gradually moved backwards.
We started out with the foundations of the planters, the wall sections and the water basin.
The walls were wallowed out of concrete slabs and filled with concrete. The lighting was installed in the water basin and in the three-part wall block. Galvanized iron carriers for the bench were installed in the wall. Then we built the steps, which were required to be a “free standing” version.
Normal concrete borders were laid on top of each other and glued together.
Afterwards, we plastered all the walls, the steps and the water basin and then plastered, polished, and sealed with micro cement. This makes all walls weather and dirt resistant. The flooring was to be of large format plates. We laid them on a layer of single-grain mortar. So that it didn’t look too massive, we left joints between the individual slabs, as well as to the edges. In order to emphasize the three-tier floor vases and to interrupt the rather long panel, we created three panel strips in the direction of vases.
The bench was mounted on the built-in iron supports, and a few aluminium profiles were installed.
We also built aluminum profiles on the ground. Finally, all joints were filled with a stone carpet made of gray marble gravel. The initially planned gas fire site was not fixed, because it would then be no longer mobile and would occupy too much space. Instead, my customer bought a mobile gas fire station.
The floor vases were set up.
Then we planted the available areas. In the planter box we put a maple tree, next to the steps three evergreen Mahonia media “Wintersun”. On the ground we used a dwarf cultivar from snake-grass (Ophiogon), other grasses and the ground-cover Cotula (lilac pad). Behind the bench are several yellow-colored yucca, which are reminiscent of agaves. In color this garden is simply gray, but the green planting creates a good contrast.
